Elaine Ruth Hoogstra (nee Hey), a loving wife and proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 25, 2018 with her family by her side. Her children, Craig/Ginny, Brad/Jeannette, and Jeff/Shirley are grateful the Lord gifted her to them for so many years. Her grandchildren, Amy/Micah, Doug, Kristen/Mike, Jackie/Neil, Dave/Amy, and Mary/Adam, her great grandchildren Christian, Will, Leah, Beckett, Joseph, Wade, Reid and Callie, as well as her cherished friend, Fran, wish they had more time with her. She is also survived by her siblings Karen and Scott. Elaine was born December 29, 1927 to the late Len and Betty (Bergsma) Hey in Passaic, NJ. She was also pre-deceased by her husband, Ed (2015), her brother, Ron (2013), her sister, Joan (2015), and her step-mother, Ruth (2011).  Elaine had a fierce love for and loyalty to her family. She never stopped believing her three sons were perfect, despite gentle hints to the contrary from their wives. Elaine bragged about her daughters as much as she did her sons, and loved and appreciated them all dearly. She delighted in every one of her grandchildren, and found them all to be nearly as perfect as their fathers. She regretted that distance and failing health prevented her from getting to know her grant grands better. Elaine's favorite color was lavender and her favorite pastime was gardening. She was also known for her beautiful house plants, and no matter where she lived (including her final years at the Holland Christian Home), a glass with plants rooting in water could be found on a windowsill. She was a wonderful baker. Family favorites include lemon meringue pie, graham cracker cream pie, and cereal cookies. No summer get-together was complete without her potato salad. Elaine's family will receive friends from 5-7pm, Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Barn in front of Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ and from 10-11am in the Chapel at the Holland Christian Home, 10165 Romaine Road, North Haledon, NJ. before the service in celebration of Elaine's life at 11am Saturday, March 10, 2018. (Due to construction, the Graham Avenue entrance to the Holland Christian Home is closed.) In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Holland Christian Home, Spirit of Progress Building Fund, 151 Graham Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
