After a long illness, Jan Arlis Cardinale passed away at home on Friday, November 20, 2009. Jan was a lifelong resident of West Milford, graduating from West Milford High School. Jan received art training at duCret School of the Arts in Montclair, and became an accomplished artist/crafter, opening Free Bird Ceramics. Jan loved children and while taking care of them, tried to develop a love of art within them. Jan also loved music. She attended Woodstock in 1969 and carried that experience with her throughout life. Jan gave back to her community as well, as a member of the West Milford Township First Aid Squad Auxiliary. Jan is survived by her mother and father, Joan and Paul Cardinale, brothers Mark and Frank Cardinale, and sisters Janie Cardinale and Dale Jones. Jan will also be missed by her nephews Clint, Dylan, Harrison and Henry, niece Georgette, and pets Winnie and Sweetie. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 PM on November 27, 2009 at the Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford.
