74, of West Milford died on January 5, 2010 after a long illness. A
lifelong resident whose family lived here for many generations his
education was at Echo Lake and Hillcrest Schools in West Milford,
graduating in the Butler High School Class of 1954. He was a machinist
at Fahlar Company, West Milford before joining the West Milford Police
Department in 1959 retiring in 1985 with the rank of Sergeant. One of
the last of the group of West Milford Police Department members known as
"Moeller’s Boys "(having originally served under the late
Police Chief John Moeller) Bill was one of the first West Milford police
department photographers, before the days of digital photography, that
did the department darkroom work. He was known as being with gifted
mechanical ability. A talented musician, during his early years he
played trumpet at local square dances and events with his siblings and
friends in a group called "The Rhythmettes." He served in the
National Guard 50th Armored Division, Riverdale in the 1950’s.
A member of St. Joseph Church, he served as an altar boy there during
his early years. Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Miller) Genader and
children William Genader Jr., Lynda Genader Sokolik, Walter Corter,
Kristel Corter Webb and Aaron Corter, a sister Ann Genader-Brooks,
mother-in-law Mae Miller, sister-in-law Christine (Miller) Gott and her
husband Bob, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a cousin
Virginia Mathews. His parents Arthur and Verina (Mathews) Genader and
brother Joseph Genader predeceased him. Funeral Liturgy Saturday 11:30AM
at St. Joseph’s Church, West Milford. Interment in the church
cemetery. Friends please meet directly at church. Visiting Friday 2-4
& 7-9PM at the Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West
Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations to Make-a-Wish Foundation, 1034
Salem Road, Union, NJ 07083-7058 would be appreciated.
