Good, William (Bill) Ward died on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Health Center at Bloomingdale after a brief stay at the facility.  He was 89 years old. The causes of his death were complications from duodenal carcinoma and dementia, which he battled during the last years of his life. Born to William H. and Edna Mae (Ward) Good in, then rural, Fair Lawn, he was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Saddlebrook Methodist Church.  He graduated from the first graduating class of Fair Lawn High School and enlisted in the Navy.  He served on the USS Antietam as a Gunnerís Mate and saw service in the Pacific Theater.  Upon his discharge, Bill became a nationally ranked target shooter and met his future bride, Rita, at the shooting range.  After the birth of his three children, they moved from Fair Lawn to Oak Ridge where he lived until his death.  He was employed by New Jersey Bell Telephone for 42 years, retiring in 1993 as a Senior Power and Apparatus Man.  Bill helped build his parentís vacation home on the banks of the Delaware River in Callicoon, NY and the family spent many summers vacationing there. Bill was a member and Captain of the Fair Lawn Fire Company #3, a member of Community Fire Company #2, Oak Ridge/Newfoundland and the New Jersey Forest Fire Service; a member of the Delaware Rod & Gun Club in Callicooon, NY, Meadowbrook Rifle Range (founding member) and the Cherry Ridge Rifle Range.  He served as Director of the West Milford Sterlings Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps and the Lakeland Brass for many years.  He was a member of the American Legion and the West Milford Republican Club.  He served as a Town Committeeman and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.  Bill was a 50 year member and Past Master of Silentia Lodge #168 F&AM, Past Patron of Silentia Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Commander of Melita Commandry #13 and Grand Deputy Inspector for the State of NJ Grand Commandry.  Bill was also a member of the Royal Arch Masons and the Zabud Council #5 Royal and Select Masters.  He loved to hike in the woods, hunt and fish and passed this love on to his children and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita (Patterson) Good; three children, Jody Tanis and her husband, Robert, of Oak Ridge, James Good and his wife, Lynn, of Andover, and Jeffrey Good and his wife, April, of Franklin; four grandchildren, Steven and Michael Tanis, Kevin and Megan Good and step-grandson Justin Thomas; three step-great-grandsons.  He is also survived by his brother Harry and his wife, Jo, of Salisbury Mills, NY and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Bill also leaves his fur-baby, Lacey, who loved to walk and cuddle with him. Friends may call at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford Tuesday, April 4, from 4 to 9 PM. Funeral Service on  Wednesday, April 5, at 10:30 AM.
