| Irene Burns (Colfax),
96, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Cedar Crest Retirement
Community, Pompton Plains, NJ. Born in Pompton Lakes and a direct
descendant of the historical Schuyler Colfax family of the George
Washington Era, Irene attended Drake Business School. She was employed by
DuPont, Pompton Lakes, where she met her husband, W. A. Brewster Burns.
They developed/operated Lazy Acres Picnic/Swim Park, West Milford, NJ, and
Tamerlane Campground, Ocean View, NJ, enjoyed traveling in the US, playing
tennis, and biking in Florida. Irene was interested in family activities
and ceramics, recreating Lladro and Nao procelain pieces. Predeceased by
her husband (2000), after a 66 year marriage, she is survived by children,
Brewster and El-Jeanne of CA, Deanna Burns of NJ, and Everett and Sally
Burns of NJ, grandchildren, Joshua and Craig of NJ, Kristen and Beth of
CA, seven great-grandchildren, good family friend, Isobel Post, and many
friends at Cedar Crest who enjoyed her jovial, witty personality. Funeral
services 10 AM, Tuesday, at the Cedar Crest Chapel in Pompton Plains, NJ.
Interment at Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Lakes, NJ. Visitation
Monday, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark Pompton
Turnpike, Riverdale, NJ.
