George A Koerner, Jr., 73, loving husband, father and grandfather of West Milford, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Friday, September 15, 2017.  George was born in Brooklyn, NY to George Sr. and Helen (Thompson) Koerner.  He moved to Kearny, NJ in 1955.  He attended Montclair State College where he received a Bachelor's Degree as a secondary teacher of Bookkeeping and Accounting in 1967, and a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision in 1973.  After graduation, he was an adjunct professor at Montclair.  He spent his career as a teacher at Butler High School for 32 years and was also their data processing manager.  After retirement, he moved to VA for a number of years before returning to NJ, where he worked for Smoke Rise in Kinnelon as sergeant patrol officer. He was a volunteer fireman in West Milford Township for over 40 years.  He was a former chief and life member of Community Fire Company, Former Commissioner for the Township of West Milford, and Member of Apshawa Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by his devoted wife of ten years, Debra (nee Buckner) and her three children and six grandchildren in VA.  Also survived by his former spouse, Kathy Koerner, and their two daughters, Kristen Koerner of West Milford and Kerry Koerner Pittelko and husband William of West Milford.  He was the proud grandfather to Kerry and William's son Dakota.  He is also survived by his cousin Carol Thompson Fisher and stepsister Ruth White. He was predeceased by his loving wife Bonnie (nee Kimble) in 2003. The family would like to thank the staff at JDT in Lincoln Park and Chilton Medical Center in Pequannock for their loving care and compassion shown to our husband/father during our most difficult times.
