Pierce, Elaine T., 89, of Ridgewood, NJ died peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Milford Manor Nursing Home, West Milford, NJ. She was born in McCook, Nebraska, but lived in Ridgewood for 70 years. She was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood NJ, first as a member of the youth group set up after WWII to introduce young veterans and locals. It was where she met her first husband, Richard Oakley (died in 1980), married him in 1948, and had three children. In 1982 she married Blake Pierce (who died in 2012). For 20+ years, Elaine was a teacher at the First Presbyterian Nursery School. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was active in the Women’s Guild. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Ridgewood, volunteered in public school art classes and was active in many Ridgewood committees and events. She was an artist and exhibited her pastel and watercolor paintings at the Women’s Club and other local exhibits. She was known throughout her life as a warm and sweet person, reaching out to everyone in the community. She will be sorely missed in the community and in her family. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Stanhope, (Bill) of West Milford, NJ, her sons, Tom Oakley (Roxanne) of Coventry, CT, and Bruce Oakley of Whispering Pines, NC. Also her stepsons, Edward (Diane) of Wellesley, MA, William (Karin) of Mechanicsburg, PA, John (Dru) of Ridgewood, NJ and Bob (Donna) of Newton, MA.  Also surviving is her sister, Lynn (John) Birch of New York City, nieces and nephews and cousins all over. Her brother, Bill Torbert, died a year ago in Lima, Ohio. She was a proud grandmother of Evan (Jordana) Stanhope, Kendra and Mark Oakley, Laura Oakley MacCloud (Brian), Stephen (Gretchen) and Gregory Pierce, Allison Abou-Daoud (Nick) and Melissa Pierce, Justin, Jamie and Lydia Pierce, and Daniel Pierce. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Troy MacCloud and Marina Abou-Daoud. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Ridgewood, NJ on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 am.
